Larry Lessig's MAYDAY.US PAC to get money out of politics is viewed by many progressives with skepticism. But this PAC has raised $7.6M* to spend on 2014 races and is soliciting suggestions. Why not improve the odds that the money will be spent on strong progressive candidates? In addition to a clear commitment to getting money out of politics, here are the other MAYDAY selection criteria:
•We want a plausible path to victory where MAYDAY can make the difference.
•We want to target bad actors and support good ones.
•We want to use our resources where they will be cost-effective.
•We want our work to have a “ripple-effect,” proving that MAYDAY is a powerful threat to incumbency.
Here's the suggestion form.
As a voter in media-expensive liberal Southern California, there's not a candidate in sight that meets these criteria. So I'm hoping that the dKos community can steer MAYDAY.US toward candidates who meet these criteria and will also be really strong progressive voices.
* MAYDAY may have actually raised over $12M assuming that the $5M raised by their July 4th deadline was matched by larger donors as promised. But since this larger amount is not yet posted on the MAYDAY website, I have used the smaller figure.
